Speech Therapists play an important role in senior care and home care.
Over the years working in health care, I have seen many patients and families that have not understood all the ways that speech therapists can help to maximize their independence and safety at home. I have encouraged patients when appropriate to have a speech therapist perform an evaluation, and they are frequently pleased with the beneficial education they receive. Speech Therapists are imperative for patients who have difficulty with forming words, but also for patients who struggle with swallowing, memory, comprehension, organization, and more!
The month of May is full of health recognition:
There are many other health care awareness events during the month of May: Osteoporosis, Stroke, Nurses Week, Women’s Health, Senior Health and Fitness, and others! I will try to highlight the areas that most impact senior care and home safety, as there is a never ending flow of updated information in health care. It is important to recognize the hard work, the struggles, and the accomplishments as we all learn more and make strides toward better health.
